The 1983 500GP championship was a closely fought contest between two giants of motorcycle racing, as the battle between Kenny Roberts and Freddie Spencer would go down to the wire. The pair traded wins throughout the season, with no other rider getting close to the top step. Coming into the final round in the San Marino GP at Imola, Spencer was on 132 points and Roberts 127. Fast Freddie won the title with the narrowest of margins with 2 points over Kenny, in what saw a victory in the Californian’s final ever race.
